IGFS Awards SGMH Highest Level of Certification
TAMPA – The International Geriatric Fracture Society (IGFS) is pleased to announce San Gorgonio Memorial Hospital in Banning, California, has secured the highest level of certification for Geriatric Fracture Care Programs as recognized by the IGFS CORE Certification Program. Their institution is the first program in California to secure certification under the CORE Certification Program and just the nineteenth program worldwide. The CORE Certification Program is a global quality improvement initiative designed to recognize the achievements of programs that exceed outcome benchmarks in the management of geriatric fractures.
In receiving this recognition, the team of dedicated professionals at San Gorgonio has documented their ability to exceed target benchmarks on key quality indicators over the past year including readmission rates, length of stay, and time to surgery.
In making the recommendation for certification at the highest level, IGFS Certification Specialist, Michele Gingo, MS, RN, ONC, from Geisinger Wyoming Valley commented: “Dr. Reis is quite dedicated to the care of the geriatric hip fracture patient, and his passion is contagious throughout the hospital staff at all levels including administration, nursing, therapy, etc. The collaborative relationship between his practice and the hospital is unique. You can see the dedication and focus on quality outcomes is entrenched throughout both the practice and hospital.”
One of the leading healthcare challenges for society is the prevalence and cost associated with geriatric fracture care for our aging population. The societal impact attributed to these fractures is being addressed through the development of new care pathways and delivery programs designed to elevate quality and deliver sustainability in the health care system.
The mission of the IGFS is to promote co-management of fragility fractures centered around an inter-disciplinary team that focuses on key quality indicators such as time to surgery, readmission rates, mortality, and osteoporosis education.
The CORE Certification Program was developed by the IGFS team of international experts representing thought-leaders in Asia, Europe, North America, and South America. This is the first major initiative of the organization to recognize achievements of Geriatric Fracture Care Programs that are delivering the highest quality care to this patient population.
